HiSky, record number of passengers in July

17.08.2023

The second most important airline operator registered in Romania continues to consolidate its market share. More than 210,000 passengers traveled with HiSky in July. This is the highest volume ever registered by the company in a single month, with 50,000 more passengers than the record reported in June and double the same period of the previous year. The evolution of bookings for August confirms the expectation that this number will also be exceeded, and the company will reach the target of two million passengers transported, by the end of the summer season.

The data reported for the month of July were recorded both on the scheduled routes operated from the airports of Bucharest, Cluj Napoca, Timișoara, Baia Mare, Iași and Chisinau, as well as on dozens of charter flights, carried out in partnership with travel agencies.

"Since the beginning of this year, our numbers have been on a steady rise and we are confident that August will surpass all our reports so far. We are pleased to have managed to far exceed the market growth average, reported for this summer at 7% over 2022. We have, of course, the advantage of a very good fleet, affordable rates and hours, but probably what helped us win the confidence of the passengers was the fact that we were not part of the problem that ruined many holiday plans this summer. We plan our flights responsibly and don't make promises we can't keep. There are obviously situations that cannot be controlled and sometimes cause delays, but the principle behind our operations is not to base our growth on passenger risk. And although we are not in a rush for records, they will come if you do your job seriously," says Iulian Scorpan, CEO of HiSky.

Otopeni Airport remains the company's main operating base. More than 78,000 passengers flew in July with HiSky, departing from Bucharest. The second airport, according to the volume of traffic, was the one in Chisinau, followed, at a short distance, by Cluj Napoca and the other airports from where the company operates scheduled flights, Iași, Timișoara and Baia Mare. In addition to these, in July, the airline also operated charter flights from ten other airports in Romania.

In the spring of this year, HiSky completed its fleet with two new Airbus A321 LR aircraft. Due to the performance of this type of aircraft, which can cover distances of up to 7400 km, non-stop, the airline manages to access a new market, that of more distant holiday destinations in Asia and Africa. This summer, the airline operates both scheduled and charter flights with eight aircraft and a total capacity of 1,500 seats. According to the market share, HiSky ranks fourth among the airlines operating in Romania, after Wizz Air, Ryanair and Tarom, and is the largest operator on the market in the Republic of Moldova.
