HiSky is making history in Romanian aviation: The first Airbus A330, with more than 14 hours flight autonomy, registered in Romania

19.09.2023

A wide-body, Airbus A330-200, aircraft will join the HiSky fleet, by the end of this year. The aircraft, with a flight range of over 13,400 km, will be the first of its type registered in Romania. HiSky thus becomes the only Romanian airline operating regular long courier flights, after more than 20 years. Through this strategic acquisition, the company enters the select gallery of top operators, which carry out direct flights from any point in Europe to the American continent as well as to distant destinations in Asia, such as China or Thailand. The announcement of the company's capabilities expansion with a wide-body aircraft comes just six months after another first was brought by HiSky to the Romanian market, the introduction of two, brand new, A321 neo aircraft into operation. The first HiSky flight with the Airbus A330 will be operated by the end of 2023.

The addition of an aircraft with a flight autonomy exceeding 14 hours to HiSky's fleet will eliminate the need for stopovers at major European airports on flights departing from Romania to distant destinations, thus providing more flexibility and freedom in travel options. Depending on passenger preferences, the company will be able to open direct routes to any major economic or tourist center in the world.

"This year was full of achievements for us and for Romanian aviation. We will soon reach two million passengers, we have opened many new destinations, we have reached the 4th place among the companies operating in Romania and we were the first operator to register two Airbus A321 neo aircraft in the country. We have had many premieres, all equally important, and until the end of the year we have a few more waiting for us. We are extremely proud to continue writing the history of Romanian aviation and to be pioneers again, by bringing this Airbus A330 to Bucharest. It is a spectacular aircraft, with which the market in the region is less familiar, but which opens up a lot of travel opportunities for passengers. We still have a few months until our first scheduled flight, so we'll definitely be back soon with all the details on the far-flung destinations we'll be reaching with the newest member of the HiSky fleet," said Iulian Scorpan, HiSky CEO.

The new Airbus A330 is the eighth aircraft to enter the HiSky fleet. At the moment, the airline operates 7 Airbus aircraft from the A320 family, namely one A319 aircraft, four A320 aircraft and two A321 neo aircraft, manufactured in 2023. Along with the expansion of the fleet and the portfolio of destinations, HiSky is also increasing its team. The company is running a continuous recruitment campaign for pilots and flight attendants.
